In the alpine meadows of Grammos, at a height of 2,350 meters, lies the alpine lake with the highest altitude in Greece, Gistova. hidden in a small niche between the highest peaks of Grammos, right on the border line, Gistova keeps its waters all year round and is a rare Greek type of habitat. Below, at 1,730 meters, in the Upper Arrenas area, we find another mountainous double lake, Moutsalia, which is near the boundaries of the forest belt (upper forest), in an area full of dense beech forests.
